3 Espresso a day fights prostate cancer! 🇮🇹☕️☕️☕️
A great new article in Medicalnewstoday.com. Just a few days ago, a study published in the International Journal of Cancer revealed Italian men who drink 3 or more espresso daily have a 53% lower risk of prostate cancer compared to those who drank only 2 espresso.
The researchers did a phenomenal job because they took the study one step further. They treated two different types of prostate cancer cell lines (PC3, DU145) with caffeinated and decaf coffee extracts. The caffeinated extract showed reduced growth (proliferation) and reduced metastasis (spreading). The authors attribute espresso’s benefits to the caffeine.
The study was done in Italy, on Italian men, and with espresso (or they named it Italian Style Coffee). I’m ecstatic the authors made aware that the way Italians make coffee is completely different than American style. Espressos are made with high pressure, high temperature and no filter. This could possibly translate to higher anti-oxidants, higher phytonutrients and more beneficial nutrients from the coffee bean.
We MUST keep in mind the Italian culture and diet. It is never just one thing. A combination of the mediterrean diet AND lifestyle (afternoon naps, whole, minimally process & local food, good quality ingredients, vino 🍷😉) all establish an micro-environment within the body that ward off illness. So is it just the coffee? Probably not. I wonder how this would play out if it were New Yorkers?
